Seminary LibraryEstablishment of the
James White Library (JWL) in 1960 as the library for Andrews University
brought together two of the major library resources of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church -- the collection of early Adventist publications and
source materials in the Emmanuel Missionary College library and the theological
and reference library of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary.
JWL, therefore, has a collection history of well over 100 years; and this,
together with its more recent acquisitions, makes it the major theological
research library in the denomination.In order to best serve the interests
of the Seminary, JWL has a separately designated reference and periodical
collection located near the stacks that house the theological materials
found in the B section according to Library of Congress Classification
system. This is often referred to as the Seminary Library. However, items
purchased with the Seminary materials budget are housed throughout the
library, and Seminary students have unlimited access to all materials
and services that are part of JWL. Mission StatementThe mission of the Seminary Library is to encourage and facilitate study and research in all areas related to religion. It primarily reflects a commitment to the Seventh-day Adventist world church as the leading theological library in the denomination, while supporting the curriculum of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary and the research needs of the Seminary students and faculty. The Seminary Library also serves as a resource center for the wider scholarly community.
